Polypharmacy

Medications are necessary to control several medical conditions. However, older people are more prone to be on multiple unnecessary medicines which usually are started during the lifetime. As we grow older, our body’s physiological processes change. Our body becomes more prone to the side effects and drug interactions which lead on to various complications like falls, cognitive impairment, poor appetite, frailty, kidney failures, electrolyte disturbances, bleeding and postural dizziness. We review the patient’s medications and adjust them as per their need. The aim is to optimize medical conditions with required drugs and eliminate all nonessential medications to reduce the side effects.
